The High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been forced to put an end to certain vital aid programs for refugees in the DRC, for lack of sufficient funds to finance them.

The High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) lacks funds in the DRC, explains the UN agency, to the point of having been forced to end certain vital aid programs for refugees in the DRC. The agency is struggling to mobilize for the DRC, regrets Angele Dikongue-Atangana, UNHCR representative in Kinshasa, who speaks of growing indifference to the situation in this country.

« At the end of June, out of the 225 million, we had obtained financing of approximately 42 million, that is to say approximately 19%. We have this lack, not to mention that the needs have continued to gallop. If we don’t have other funding, we won’t be able to support 82% of our displaced people and refugees to have decent shelter. More generally, the DRC has truly been one of the least attractive operations for several years. »
