Short track Suk-hee Shim not participate in the Winter Games due to suspension of qualifications


Short track speed skater Shim Seok-hee (Seoul City Hall) will not participate in the 103rd National Winter Games.

According to Shim Suk-hee on the 22nd, Shim Suk-hee was not able to apply for the National Winter Games due to disciplinary issues. Shim Seok-hee was given a two-month suspension from her qualification on December 21 last year following a private text message exchanged with a coach at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics was leaked. The application period for her participation in the National Winter Games was from the 10th to the 20th of last month, but Suk-hee Shim’s participation was automatically canceled due to the rule that disciplinary sanctioned persons cannot participate in competitions as well as participate in competitions.

However, Shim Seok-hee is undergoing normal training. A representative from Shim Suk-hee’s side explained, “Sim Suk-hee is training normally.” Shim Suk-hee said that following she was lifted from suspension on the 21st, she can compete normally in all competitions and also participate in the International Skating Union (ISU) World Championships next month. Shim Suk-hee took first place in the women’s division in her national team selection contest held in May last year, qualifying for her international competition.
