ROCHESTER, New York (AP) — Six people were shot and wounded in a park in Rochester, New York, early Sunday morning, police said.
None of the injured are believed to be in life-threatening condition.
Rochester Police Chief, David Smithsaid at least one person began shooting into a crowd of people during an argument at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park in Manhattan Square around 2:45 a.m. Sunday.
Police said the victims were a 17-year-old boy; three men aged 18, 21 and 33, and two women aged 20 and 25.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, but police have charged a man who they say got into a fight with officers as they responded to the shooting. One officer was injured while trying to detain the man and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Smith said.
The 38-year-old man was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree obstruction of public administration, resisting arrest and second-degree harassment, Smith said.
“When you have people actively fighting with officers who are trying to provide medical care, it obviously makes things a lot more difficult,” Smith said at a news conference Sunday.
