Update Washington Unknown people shot into the crowd in a nightlife district in the US city of Philadelphia – three people were killed. Fatal shootings also occurred in Tennessee and Michigan.
According to the police, unknown persons “shot into the crowd” in a nightlife district in the US city of Philadelphia, killing at least three people. The two men and one woman were declared dead on arrival at the hospital as a result of multiple gunshot wounds, a police representative said on Sunday night (local time). In addition, eleven people were injured by gunfire in the incident in the state of Pennsylvania.
A police officer shot one of the attackers, who fled, official DF Pace said. The police have seized two semi-automatic pistols, the perpetrators are volatile. “Numerous” ammunition casings were seized on busy South Street.
At the time of the crime on Saturday, shortly before midnight (local time), there were – as usual at the weekend – hundreds of people in the area with numerous restaurants and bars, as Pace described. The police hope to get more information about the crime and to identify the perpetrators through surveillance cameras. So far it is still unclear how many shooters there were and what the motive for the crime was.
Another shooting happened in the US state of Tennessee: at least three people were killed and 14 others injured in front of a nightclub. At least one of the dead and several injured were hit by cars speeding away from the scene, Chattanooga City Police Chief Celeste Murphy said Sunday. The rest were hit by gunshots.
The background to the shooting was initially unclear. Murphy said several people fired shots just before 3 a.m. Several of the injured were in mortal danger. “We’re trying to determine exactly what happened and how it happened,” Murphy said.
Three people were also killed by gunfire in the US state of Michigan on Sunday night. Two men were found dead after an emergency call, and a woman later succumbed to her gunshot wounds in the hospital, police said in Saginaw, northwest of Detroit. Two other men were shot and drove to the hospital in private cars to receive treatment. The shots were fired around 2:30 a.m., news site MLive.com reported. The background was initially unclear.
