Three people were injured in a shooting during a “summer carnival” of the Caribbean in the center of Rotterdam, according to the Dutch police in a statement Sunday, explaining the arrest of three people, including the shooter and one of the injured.

The police in the coastal city declined to reveal the cause of the shooting, which occurred on Saturday at 20:45 (18:45 GMT), explaining that it had opened fire on the shooter.

“The officers saw a suspect shoot a victim. They then fired several shots at him,” the police said in a statement, adding that “the suspect and the victim were taken to hospital and arrested.”

She also explained that “a woman was injured when she fell while moving away from the scene of the accident.”

The accident happened near Colsingle, the main avenue in the city centre, according to police. The Public Broadcasting Corporation, “News”, said that the “Summer Carnival” had suspended its program as a precaution following the shooting incident.

The local TV station, Raymond, posted on its Instagram a video clip showing a firearm between the tramway tracks, a large deployment of security forces, and a person being transported in an ambulance.

The station stated that following the shooting, “screams rose and people started running in all directions.”
