Shooting at Michigan State University, 3 dead

At least 3 people were killed and 5 injured after a gunman opened fire at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.

According to a report by Reuters news agency, police said that law enforcement agencies are searching for the suspect on the main campus. Official details about the incident were not immediately available.

However, Interim Deputy Chief of University Police Chris Roseman said the shooting occurred at two locations, one in an academic building called Berkey Hall and the other in the Michigan State University Union building.

Chris Roseman told reporters at a media briefing that police responded to the shooting that began shortly after 8 p.m. local time and located victims at both locations.

He confirmed that at least 5 injured people have been taken to hospital, some of them in critical condition. Later, the police issued an update via Twitter saying that at least 3 people were killed in the incident. .

Several buildings on campus were cleared by police in the hours after the first shots were fired, police said, as officers cordoned off the campus to search for possible additional victims and a suspect.

Students, faculty and residents in off-campus areas were urged by officials to seek shelter while the search for the attacker continues.

Chris Roseman said the suspect, a short man wearing a mask, was last seen fleeing the university building on foot, according to preliminary information.
