‘Shogun’ and ‘The Crown’ among the most nominated films at the Emmy Awards

The series ‘Shogun’ won 25 nominations for the 76th edition of the Emmy Awards and became the production with the highest number of nominations. It was followed by ‘The Bear’, which broke the record in its comedy category with 23 nominations, while ‘The Crown’ won 18 categories.

The two FX television shows leading the rankings are followed by ‘Only Murders in the Building’ and ‘True Detective’ with 21 and 19 nominations respectively, the American Television Academy announced on Wednesday.

The drama set in Japan in the 1600s, ‘Shogun’, did not disappoint in its ambitious race to become the title with the most recognition from the Academy and will compete once morest the emblematic ‘The Crown’, as well as ‘Fallout’, ‘The Gilded Age’, ‘The Morning Show’, ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ and ‘Slow Horses’ and ‘The 3 Body Problem’ in the category for best drama series.

The final season of ‘The Crown’ won 18 categories, adding to the spectacular list of 69 nominations and 21 awards it has collected since its premiere in 2016.

Some nominees

The actress who plays Princess Diana in her adult stage, Elizabeth Debicki, will once once more compete for the title of best supporting actress, which will be contested by actresses Lesley Manville (‘The Crown’), Christine Baranski (‘The Gilded Age’) and actresses from ‘The Morning Show’ Nicole Beharie, Greta Lee, Karen Pittman and Holland Taylor.

His co-stars Dominic West, who plays the now King Charles III of England, and Imelda Staunton, who takes on the role of Elizabeth II in her final years, also received nominations for best actor and actress in a drama series.

West will compete for the statuette alongside ‘Shogun’ actors Hiroyuki Sanada, as well as Idris Elba (‘Hijack’), Donald Glover (‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’), Walton Goggins (‘Fallout’) and Gary Oldman (‘Slow Horses’).

Meanwhile, Anna Sawai (‘Shogun’), Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon (‘The Morning Show’), Carrie Coon (‘The Gilded Age’) and Maya Erskine (‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’) were nominated for the same coveted award that Staunton hopes to win.

The story of Carmen Berzatto, a promising young haute cuisine star who moves to Chicago to revive a family sandwich restaurant, doubled the 13 nominations it received last year.

‘The Bear’ will compete to revalidate its title of best comedy series alongside already award-winning series such as ‘Abbott Elementary’ (ABC), ‘Only Murders in the Building’ (Hulu) and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO Max), ‘Hacks ‘ (HBO Max), ‘Palm Royale’ (Apple), ‘Reservation Dogs’ (FX), ‘What We Do In The Shadows’ (FX).

American actor Jeremy Allen White will once once more compete in the category for best comedy actor, an award he already won last year and which on this occasion he will compete for with Larry David (‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’), Martin Short and Steve Martin (‘Only Murders in the Building’), Matt Berry (‘What we do in the Shadows’) and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (‘Reservior Dogs’).

Ayo Edebiri, last year’s winner for best supporting actress for ‘The Bear’, will compete this year for the Emmy for best actress, a title for which Jean Smart (‘Hacks’), Quinta Brunson (‘Abbott Elementary’), the American singer and actress Selena Gomez (‘Only Murders in the Building’), and Maya Rudolph, Jean Smarts (‘Hacks’) and Kristen Wiig (‘Palm Royale’) will also compete.

Lastly, the series ‘Baby Reindeer’, the new Netflix hit, garnered two nominations for best limited series, best actor (Richard Gadd).

The 76th Emmy Awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on September 15, in an edition in which Colombian Sofía Vergara will compete for the Emmy for best actress in a limited series for her performance in Netflix’s ‘Griselda’, a statuette that she will compete for alongside personalities of the stature of Jodie Foster (‘True Detective: Night Country’), or Naomi Watts (‘Feud: Capote vs. The Swans’).
