Rio de Janeiro was once again the scene of a shocking act of violence. A cold-blooded murder carried out by a gang that killed three doctors in a bar restaurant in Tijuca, a tourist area par excellence in the Rio city, moves the town. The criminals got out of a car on Avenida Lúcio Costa during the early hours of this Thursday and unloaded their weapons on the diners who were calmly dining at a table located on the sidewalk.
According to initial estimates, in just 28 seconds the criminals shot at least 20 times at their victims. The security camera shows that at that time it was 00:59 local time.
The images also show two other customers, who flee to safety when they hear the shots. Shortly after the incident occurred, one of them returns to the table to pick up his cell phone. The crimes had already been completed.

According to Brazilian media, the victims, whose names have not been released, were doctors who were attending an orthopedic congress called the VI International Congress of Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery and were staying at the Windsor Hotel, on the same avenue where the crime was committed.
Marcos de Andrade Corsato, 62, and Perseu Ribeiro Almeida, 33, died at the scene. Diego Ralf Bonfim, 35, was rescued, but did not survive his injuries. Another man, identified as Daniel Sonnewend Proença, was also injured and taken to Lourenço Jorge Hospital, in Barra. His health status is stable.

The Police have not reported any arrests in this case and they are working on the possible reasons for the execution, since it was not a robbery nor do they have details about a previous meeting between the doctors and their murderers. Witnesses stated that they heard nothing but gunshots. None of the gunmen said anything before or after unloading their weapons.
The attack occurred at a beach stand located in a wealthy area of the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood, in the western part of Rio, the most touristic city in Brazil, according to authorities reported in a note.

The Civil Police has opened a procedure to investigate the case and considers that it may be an execution, since the suspects shot at least twenty times at the victims and immediately returned to the vehicle and left.
One of the deceased, Diego Ralf de Souza Bomfim, is the brother of federal deputy Sâmia Bomfim, of the Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL, left).

When the agents arrived at the scene, they found three of the doctors dead and a fourth wounded who was taken to a hospital in the region, according to the Military Police.
They then began a series of searches to try to locate the suspects, but were unable to find the whereabouts of any of them.
“Surveillance in the region was reinforced. The area was isolated and the place preserved for forensic work by the Homicide Department,” the Police said.
The Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is recovering from hip surgery, condemned this Thursday the “execution” of the three doctors, including the brother of a federal representative, which occurred last morning in Rio de Janeiro.
The president reported on his social networks that the Federal Police will accompany the investigations of the case by order of the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino.
