After fatally shooting a man, he attacked a passerby who was filming what appears to have been a violent episode of road rage that occurred Wednesday in Portland, Oregon.
It was around 4:30 p.m. that Samuel Gomez, 48, heard people shouting that a man had been shot. He then went to the scene to discover the victim lying on the sidewalk.
Wanting to film the scene, he took out his cell phone, but quickly found himself in the gunman’s sights.
“He loaded the gun and he looked directly at me and then […] he had me [visé]”, he told The Oregonian Friday from his hospital bed.
The shot first passed through Samuel Gomez’s leg before breaking the femur of his other leg. Fortunately, a doctor who was passing by went to administer first aid.
Unfortunately, the second victim, Ryan Martin, 47, did not survive his injuries. The latter would have been hit in the chest, according to information collected by The Oregonian.
The suspect in this case, 46-year-old Geoffrey E. Hammond, has been arrested and may face charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, assault with a weapon and unlawful use of a firearm. , Portland police said in a statement.
