(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Yoo Yu-ju = A British nurse who killed 7 babies and attempted to kill 6 has been found to be more serious, the Guardian reported on the 20th (local time).

According to reports, local police believe it is possible that nurse Lucy Letby (33) may have harmed dozens of more infants in addition to what has been identified so far at two hospitals in northwest England where she worked in the past.

According to a source familiar with the police investigation, regarding 30 babies have been identified at the Countess of Chester’s hospital following experiencing suspicious events.

A court earlier convicted Letby last week on charges of killing seven babies and attempting to kill six others.

From June 2015 to June 2016, he killed five boys and two girls in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital by injecting air into the body or force-feeding them with milk.

Police asked neonatologists and other experts to examine the medical records of regarding 4,000 babies born at Countess Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital between 2012 and 2015 to determine additional damage.

As a result, it is known that at least 30 more cases of suspected infanticide were identified at the Countess of Chester Hospital by April of this year alone while Letby was employed.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Experts are reporting to the police when cases of unexplained deterioration of health in unexpected circumstances are discovered.

Police are working with hospitals to see if there are legitimate reasons for the baby’s deteriorating health, and if there are harms, they will send medical professionals to investigate the case further, The Guardian said.

The police said, “We are thoroughly reviewing all hospitalization cases from a medical point of view so that nothing is missed during his (Letby’s) tour of duty.”
