An incredible story happened Friday morning in Hainaut. In the space of half an hour, a burglar broke into a garden center and stole the vehicle of a mother and her child, witnesses of the scene, before crashing into a facade of the house family.
In the town of Lens, the house where the funny spectacle took place now has a smashed facade and is covered in motor oil.
“The house shook”
It was around 6 a.m. this Friday when a driver hit the home occupied by Lucas and his family. “We kind of wondered what”tells the young man at the microphone of RTL info. “The shock was such that the house shook. The neighbors came out saying ‘it already shook at our house so at your house I can’t even imagine what you must have been thinking in your head'”he then reports. “When we got out, we saw smoke, a car in the middle of the road…”
Inside the house, the damage was considerable. After the visit of stability experts, props were installed. “We can clearly see the facade which has moved, the supporting wall which has moved back and which has been detached from the wall of the facade”shows Luca to our camera.
Break-in at a garden center
The driver of the vehicle was actually on the run. A few minutes earlier, he tried to smash the entrance doors of a garden center located 11 kilometers away, in Ath. “He rushed into the garden center to see if there was any cash around the cash registers”explains Johnny, the manager. “Naturally, there was nothing. He realized the alarm was sounding so he decided to leave the garden center empty-handed.”
The RTL info team also met Nathalie, a neighbor. She had just gotten into her car to drop her son off at work when she spotted the thief before calling the police. “As the street hasn’t been lit for several months, I really didn’t see it coming”says the mother. “He opened my door, grabbed me and threw me to the ground and then he got into my car, attacked my son and then stole my car…” Victim of the thief, Nathalie’s son, testifies, his left eye visibly damaged. “He started punching me and I fought back as best I might,” he says. “Unfortunately, he was taller and stronger than me, I didn’t last long and decided to get out of the car when my eye started bleeding.”
Break-in, violent theft, accident with material damage… The perpetrator of these multiple offenses was arrested. Lucas and his family will be rehoused by the city’s CPAS.
