The children fell asleep during the meal, so they packed the remaining meals home for their father who was working the night shift. Unexpectedly, the next day, Li Nan lost control of his mood and accused them of going out to eat and drink while he was working hard and violently assaulting Yang’s wife.
Li Jun’s 4-year-old son witnessed the whole process. He called Li Jun at work while his grandfather was sleeping, saying that his grandparents had a fight, that his grandma fell to the ground and mightn’t get up, and that his grandfather even gave them a “silence order.” After hearing this, Li Jun immediately called the police and hurried home. Yang’s wife needed hospitalization due to a lumbar fracture. Li Jun repeatedly asked the police regarding the progress of the case, hoping to detain his father. As a result, Li Nan broke into the ward many times and threatened to kill Mrs. Yang if the police caused trouble to him once more. He also said that he would buy explosives and die with them. In the early morning of July 28, following Li Jun waited for Mrs. Yang to fall asleep, he sent his two children to a nearby hotel to spend the night. However, he received a call from the hospital at the door of the hotel saying that Mr. Li broke into the ward with a kitchen knife and chopped Mrs. Yang. When Li Jun rushed back to the hospital, the scene had been cordoned off. He described: “There was blood everywhere in the ward. My mother (Yang’s wife) was unconscious.
