A couple made a shocking discovery following returning from abroad. Their house, located in Hainaut, was transformed to cultivate some 600 cannabis plants. Many rooms were ransacked. Seen from the outside, a house located in the middle of town in Hainaut did not seem suspicious. However, this house housed a criminal organization. They tell a story worthy of a movie. “Here was our office which had been completely renovated. They dismantled everything to carry out their cannabis cultivation”explains the man of the couple.
Everything was covered in dirt
After months spent abroad, they are alerted by the police. They discover that, during their absence, their house has been used as a cannabis plantation. “Everything was covered with earth. The ceilings have been lowered to hang their lamps. There was an extractor on a wall to filter the air”he says.
Several important improvements have been made. Water pipes were diverted to water the plantations. An air filter has been installed to limit odors and an electrical network has been transformed.
They are clearly professionals.
“It’s clearly professionals. Thinking regarding isolating a house like that. The neighbors never felt anything, never had any doubts because everything was so optimized”he points out.
Several rooms in the house are completely destroyed. In the attic, only the remains of the 600 cultivated cannabis plants remain. “Here, we found tons of soil, pots, plants. There were still nets where drugs were drying”, says the couple’s wife.
For those owners who first thought of moving, now is the time to repair. “We know that people have been arrested, that drugs have been seized but we still don’t know what happened, how it happened. What is the most complicated I think is that “We are alone. There is nothing planned for this kind of situation. Neither insurance, nor the police, nor justice. We are all alone in fact”she laments.
Possible compensation?
A file has been opened by their insurer. Whether it is damage caused by a tenant or by squatters, compensation can be complicated to obtain for this type of situation. “What we see is that it is a lack of monitoring of his property. Methods are also improving. This increases the productivity of the plants. Growing cannabis now becomes twice as profitable as 10 years ago. “They are modernized because they also use more efficient equipment, in particular pesticides, to increase the production of cannabis”adds the policeman.
