Manijeh Starren (middle photo), 34, disappeared on April 21 in the United States.

It was his father who, worried regarding not having any more news, had given the alert on May 1. Very quickly, suspicion fell on the companion of the missing woman.

The investigation revealed that Joseph Jorgenson, 40, had previously engaged in domestic violence. He strangled Manijeh with a rope, another time a neighbor saw the victim with a black eye and red marks on his neck.

The police tapped CCTV. The footage shows Starren running away from her apartment on April 21 and Jorgenson leading her back inside.

Afterwards, the young woman was never seen on video once more. But Jorgenson was filmed entering and leaving the apartment 28 times over the following week. Once, he was carrying a suitcase and some gym bags which he placed in his roommate’s van.

On June 28, the police raided Jorgenson’s apartment. The suspect barricaded himself inside and started a fire in his room.

The madman was finally brought under control. The police discovered a large amount of blood in a cupboard.

Analysis of Jorgenson’s phone revealed that he had been to the area of an iStorage unit in Woodbury, New York.

Officers attended the scene where they discovered a large cooler wrapped in plastic, a blue sports bag and a small carry-on suitcase. Inside was the dismembered body of Manijeh Starren.

Jorgenson was remanded in custody. His bail was set at $5 million.

The suspect may be linked to the disappearance of Fanta Xayavong (pictured left), 33, who disappeared in July 2021. When last seen she was with Jorgenson. The investigations are continuing.
