In 2014, one of the most shocking crimes that went around the world was discovered when a Bali taxi driver reported that passengers had left a corpse in a suitcase.

Crimes are reported every day, but this one drew attention, given how small the suitcase was, no one would believe that a human body might fit there.

In the Asian country, the couple was convicted of the murder. Schaefer got 18 years behind bars, while she got 10, though she got out at 7 for good behavior.

However, in the United States, the trial for the same crime awaited him, for which he has just pleaded guilty.

As Heather herself told People, she and her mother had a very stormy relationship.

On the one hand, she said, she did not conceive that her daughter would one day be separated from her. An attachment that contrasted with the way she despised everything Heather did.

Mack also recalled in that magazine that, as a child, Sheila subjected her to behaviors as disturbing as making her steal cosmetics from stores.

In 2014, they embarked on a trip to Bali in which Scheafer also took part.

One morning, the two women got into one of their usual fights, motivated, apparently, because the mother found out that her daughter was expecting a baby from her sentimental partner.

In principle, the couple assured that, upon learning of the pregnancy, they threatened to kill the child.

Then, they also said, he jumped on Scheafer’s neck and tried to strangle him for 30 seconds.

The defense claimed that when the fight between Sheila and Scheafer turned violent, Heather hid in the bathroom of her hotel room.

However, the prosecution denied everything Heather said and exposed that she and her boyfriend premeditated Sheila’s death so that she might come into possession of a $1.5 million trust that her father left her.

Likewise, the prosecution said that it had the video of the two trying to put the suitcase with the body in the trunk of a taxi in Indonesia. The suitcase turned out to be the same one that shocked the world due to its small size.

In a twist of the case, Heather pleaded guilty, following persistently maintaining that she was innocent.

The sentences that the Indonesian justice imposed on the couple were considered very lenient in the United States by Sheila’s relatives, so now they expect a truly exemplary punishment.

According to the Los Angeles Times, he agreed to pay 28 years in jail with the prosecution for pleading guilty.

As for the baby she was expecting when the events occurred, it was a girl Heather named Stealla.

The little girl was with her until she was 2 years old in jail where she was serving her sentence in Indonesia.

Since that moment, the fate of the girl has been bumpy. First, she was handed over to a family in the Asian country. Custody of her was later awarded to a friend of hers, Oshar Putu Melody Suartama, who is of Australian and Indonesian descent.

Then Favia, Heather’s lawyer, had it, but she returned it and Suartama took it back, but, according to ABC7, she was forced to hand it over to Lisa Hellman, Heather’s cousin, last year.
