[Animal News]Harming animals is a cowardly act. The 5-year-old Dubo sunflower parrot “Song Cake” was suspected of being abused by a drug-addicted owner in the past six months. He was suspected of being beaten and second-hand drugs, which caused him serious physical problems. Accumulation of water in the neck, calcification of the lungs, inability to walk, stand and defecate. Enthusiastic citizens rescued the parrot and handed it over to Hong Kong Parrot Rescue for follow-up. It took a long medical treatment for the sponge cake. Guo Xiuyun, founder of Hong Kong Parrot Rescue, said that the incident involved cruelty to animals and has called the police.

Hong Kong Parrot Rescue received help from enthusiastic citizens in early June, pointing out that Parrot Sponge was repeatedly beaten by a drug-addicted owner and took second-hand drugs. It was far more serious than imagined, so I asked Hong Kong Parrot Rescue for help.

Guo Xiuyun said that when he first picked up the sponge cake, he was found to be paralyzed, unable to stand and walk, had a poor appetite, and needed assistance to defecate. The results of the veterinary examination were shocking. Sponge’s head was severely waterlogged, some of her lungs were calcified, and there were giant tumors on her body that were pressing on her abdominal digestive and excretory system. His wing bones were injured but recovered, and his hair is suspected to have been plucked.

Although Songbing has suffered so much pain and illness, his will to live is so tenacious that even the veterinarians are amazed at how he survived. Although the medical expenses are very high, and the current volunteers still do not have enough funds to cover the operation expenses, Guo Xiuyun still hopes that Song Chou can be saved. When Song Chou’s mental condition improves and stabilizes and he has enough funds, he will perform the surgery for him. There are currently two Volunteers are taking good care of Songbing and even arranging Qigong treatment for him. She also said that this case is obviously a serious crime of cruelty to animals, so she has called the police, and it is known that the police have also contacted the owner involved to follow up.

Pursuant to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance, any person who cruelly beats, kicks, mistreats, tortures, irritates or frightens an animal, or causes any animal to be subjected to any unnecessary Suffering, upon conviction, the maximum penalty is imprisonment for 3 years and a fine of 200,000 yuan.
