Dubai United Arab Emirates (CNN)—issued Egyptian judiciaryOn Thursday, a doctor, Rawd al-Faraj, was sentenced to death by hanging on charges of indecent assault on 99 women, in an incident that sparked widespread interaction among activists on social media.
In detail, Al-Ahram Gate reported in a report: “The accused had admitted before the Public Prosecution that he was receiving money from some women in exchange for agreeing to perform abortions on them, while he was forcing others to sign trust receipts so that they would not evade paying the money.”
She continued: “The accused stated that he practiced vice in his clinic located in the Shubra area in the Rawd al-Farag Police Department over a period of 17 years, and that there were 10 times when the victims agreed to the matter and he photographed them on his mobile phone, and kept those clips on his ‘hard disk’.”
The accused said, according to what was reported by Al-Ahram: “I was taking pictures of the sick women who came to the clinic, whether with their consent or not. At first, as a kind of joke, fun and mood, I kept watching myself,” justifying what he did “by afflicting him with a mental illness, claiming that he was sexually healthy.”
Al-Ahram indicated that “the prosecution had referred the case to the Cairo Criminal Court, which decided to refer the accused to the Mufti, to obtain a legal opinion on his execution, and set a session for February 2024 to pronounce the ruling.”
