Shock! Singer Voula Ghika has died at her home 2024-07-20 16:31:40

Voula Ghika breathed her last at the age of 91.

The singer who became widely known in the 1950s and 1960s through her collaboration with Grigoris Bithikotsis and the “sigondo” she did for him in nightclubs was the wife of the popular composer and organist, Nikos Karanikolas.

The news of her death was shared by the journalist Antonis Boskoitis through his related post on Facebook.

“The 91-year-old singer Voula Ghika, the legendary singer of Grigoris Bithikotsis in the decade 1955-1965, was found dead a few hours ago at her home in Kineta. It hasn’t been many years since we spoke on the phone and she was negative regarding being interviewed. I didn’t bother her once more.

I say goodbye to her with a deep bow because she was a worker of popular song, even if she never became what we call a first name. But those involved in Greek music know very well who Voula Ghika was and how much she contributed to our popular culture. Have a good trip”, wrote the journalist, saying goodbye to the singer.
