Soccer media ‘Goal.com’ reported on the 28th (Korean time), “The Spanish prosecutors demanded two years in prison for Neymar, who signed a contract with Barcelona, and five years in prison for former Barcelona president Sandro Rossell. Barcelona was fined 8.4 million euros.”
The sudden shocking news came out that Neymar had been scammed during the transfer to Barcelona. The lawsuit has been in progress since 2015. A Brazilian company called DIS, which has owned 40% of Neymar’s ownership since 2009, suspects that the Neymar transfer fee agreed between Barcelona and Brazilian club Santos is higher than the officially announced amount.
Because DIS owned 40% of Neymar, if the actual transfer fee was higher than the officially announced transfer fee, they had to receive more money. In other words, the DIS is claiming that Barcelona, the Neymar family, and Santos cheated in the transfer process.
In response, the DIS company filed a lawsuit once morest Neymar, Neymar’s parents, N&N, a Neymar family business, Odiglio Rodriguez, then Santos manager, and Rossel, then Barcelona’s chairman, and Joseph Maria Bartomeu, who recalled vice-president.
As the lawsuit progressed, the prosecution, which was investigating the Neymar transfer process, filed a complaint once morest Neymar, former Barcelona president Roselle and the club. The brother has not yet been confirmed. The Barcelona District Court will take over the case and give a verdict in seven trials between October 17 and 31.
Neymar is expected to appear at the trial. Former Barcelona presidents Rossel and Bartomeu are also expected to attend. Since Bartomeu was vice-president at the time, he claims he is unaware of the details of the Neymar transfer process. Currently, prosecutors say that Neymar’s parents are also at fault and have asked for two years for Neymar’s father and one year for his mother.
Barcelona and Neymar have been tried in the past over salary issues, so this case is expected to have a bigger impact.
