Shock in Iraq after the death of former national team player Haider Abdul Razzaq

The Iraqi sports community was shocked by the death of the former national football team player, Haider Abdul Razzaq, who was seriously injured as a result of an attack a few days ago at the hands of “unidentified persons” in the capital, Baghdad, according to the Iraqi News Agency.

And the Iraqi accounts on social networking sites were filled with pictures of the player as an expression of sadness for his loss. Abdul Razzaq was one of the stars of the Iraqi national team, which won the 2007 Asian Cup for the first time in its history.

The player participated in several local, Arab and continental championships within the national teams, and the Student Club, in addition to his professionalism in many Arab and Gulf clubs.

A number of athletes and media personnel attended the funeral of Captain Haider Abdul Razzaq at the Neurological Wholesale Hospital in Baghdad, where he died, according to a video clip posted on Twitter.

Sadness pervaded social media in Iraq, and Iraqi bloggers shared posts expressing anger over the treacherous assault of a well-known player.

And a tweeter wrote: “The death of the former Iraqi national team player Haider Abdul Razzaq in the streets of Baghdad! In the state of lawlessness…”.

Another branch fell from the Iraqi sports tree.

The Minister of Sports visited Iraq, Adnan Darjal, Haider Abdul Razzaq, before his death.

Haider Abdul Razzaq, following his retirement, worked in the administrative field, and supervised the student team for several seasons.

The official and mass sports circles in Iraq expressed their sadness at the departure of Haider Abdul Razzaq, according to the Iraqi Agency.
