In a shocking complaint about the unimaginable treatment of police officers towards a woman – the workers at the “Elena Venizelou” hospital come forward as a rape victim.
The workers of the “Elena Venizelou” hospital are outraged by the inhumane and abusive treatment by the police of a woman who had been raped.
According to the complaint, a woman who had been a victim of rape found herself in the emergency room of the Hospital, which she was on duty, with vaginal bleeding and pain in the lower abdomen, she suffered the “extreme sexist policy of the state and the government towards women and even more so towards abused women women”, as they say.
The woman reported to the doctors and nurses that she had been raped three days before and they advised her to contact the police to file a complaint. Afterwards, and according to the announcement of the hospital workers, the woman was forced to go to the Police Department for a long deposition, while she needed medical treatment.
The employees of the hospital describe the continuation as “deplorable”.
“We consider it unthinkable, dangerous and unscientific for her to come reporting these symptoms after her rape and to be removed from our hospital and referred to some AT of the basin,” the workers continue, describing what happened that day at the hospital.
In fact, as they note, if a member of the union’s board had not intervened “in this infuriating process of the second abuse of the woman, neither would he have returned to the hospital, nor would the police have come to the TEP site to take a statement as required by law.”
“What happens protects the abuser and not the victim”
In the same document, the employees state that the hospital’s nursing staff were informed by the Police that the victim would be called the next day to testify to a psychologist and that the intoxicated woman would be seen by a medical examiner, but “days have passed and still no one has called her”!
The Workers’ Union emphasizes that “the process of dealing with victims of abuse cannot be in the hands of the Police” and stands by the severe understaffing of the National Health Service which “has crushed the possibility of having adequate staff” in public hospitals, referring to midwives, nurses, doctors, social workers and psychiatrists.
“We consider it unthinkable, dangerous and unscientific, to come reporting these symptoms after her rape, to be removed from our hospital and referred to an A.T. of the basin”, the workers report.
“It was revealed before our eyes that despite the honorable efforts of the staff, the Government and the Ministry with their murderous and sexist policy have dismantled a gynecological hospital that is unable to provide the necessities to a raped woman. They don’t give a damn about their treatment and essentially with these procedures they prevent them from reporting rape and protect the abuser more than the victim.”
According to information, Attica Security has asked the Attica Security Sub-Directorate, to which the Police Department is affiliated, to inform whether the complaint has been made and how its officers handled it.
