Station House Officer (SHO) Sub-Inspector Muhammad Alam was martyred in firing during an operation launched to arrest the accused involved in the murder of a school teacher in Tehsil Ashkoman of Ghazar District, Gilgit-Baltistan.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Gilgit Region Raja Mirza Hasan says that the local teacher Neet Amin was shot dead three days ago in Bathrit village of Ishkuman Tehsil, on which the police conducted a search operation on Thursday evening. .

Raja Mirza Hasan further said that during this time, unknown suspects opened fire on the police team, as a result of which SHO Muhammad Alam was martyred due to bullet injuries.

He said that a search has been intensified in the area and around a dozen suspects have been arrested, who are being investigated.

Raja Mirza Hasan says that the detained suspects are being interrogated about the teacher and police officer incident, but the suspects have not been arrested yet, but important information has been received about the teacher incident.

He said that the search operation has been accelerated since Friday morning, according to the DIG, the funeral prayers of Shaheed SHO Muhammad Alam were performed today at the Central Police Office.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ghazar Sher Khan says that a large number of police are participating in the operation and so far around a dozen accused have been detained.

In addition, Gilgit-Baltistan Police has stated on its official social media site that Maulvi Muhammad Ayub from Diamer who resides in Bathrit village, when the police arrived at his house to get information, they were fired from inside the house. As a result, the SHO was martyred and the woman in the house was also injured.

The police further said that the firing was done by Ziaur Rahman, son of Noshirwan Sakna Tangir, son-in-law of Maulvi Muhammad Ayub, who managed to escape by taking advantage of the darkness of the night in the guise of women.

Meanwhile, Gilgit Police in another post on social networking website X (Twitter) said that the funeral prayers of Mohammad Alam, who was martyred during the search operation, have been performed.

It was further said that a large number of citizens, including Commander Northern Areas Force Commander Major General Kashif Khalil, IG Police Afzal Mehmood Butt, provincial ministers, administrative and police officers, soldiers, relatives of the martyr participated in the funeral prayer.
