That’s what it’s regarding

An employee of the cosmetics company Lush takes a stand in the Middle East conflict.

With a sign in his shop in Dublin he calls for a boycott of Israel.

A brand expert thinks Lush needs to take responsibility.

The cosmetics chain Lush is known for its commitment to LGBTIQ rights. For example, she advertised in shop windows in Florida once morest a law that prohibits teachers from talking regarding homosexuality in primary schools. It’s better to forego sales and be able to sleep well instead, said Lush co-founder Rowena Bird in a recent interview. Now Lush is taking a stand on the Middle East conflict with a “Boycott Israel” sign.

The sign hangs in the window of a shop in the Irish capital Dublin, as a photo by user “Benonwine” on the platform X shows (see below). It says: “This is disgusting, can Lush please comment on this?”

After Hamas’ attack on Israel, many are now outraged and calling for a boycott of Lush. As before, they accuse the company of being once morest Israel (see box). Others support the call once morest Israel.

Lush in criticism of the Jewish community

The Jewish community has previously criticized Lush for supporting Palestine. In 2011, some accused the company of anti-Semitism for supporting a music single called “Freedom for Palestine.” At the time, Lush said that criticism of the Israeli government’s policies was not synonymous with anti-Semitism or rejection of the Israeli state.

That’s what Lush says

Lush tells Sky News that an employee is responsible for the sign. The company did not say whether the sign is still hanging there or what consequences it will have for the employee. The spokesman for Lush Switzerland was unable to comment on the situation in Ireland when asked.

The speaker says: “Lush disapproves of all violence and injustice. We wish for peace and security for all Israeli and Palestinian people. We support compliance with international law and the human rights of all peoples.”

This is what the brand expert says

For Lush, the current situation is as dangerous as any shitstorm, even if they have previously shown themselves to be liberal when it comes to LGBTIQ rights, says Tanja Hollenstein, brand expert at the consulting firm Riverside. In such an inhumane conflict, such an evasive response is not ethically justifiable and will inevitably reflect negatively on the company.

Lush is not only threatened with a drop in sales. Physical attacks by outraged people on Lush stores are also possible, as was the case at H&M in South Africa, when an motif that was perceived as racist turned violent.

The company must now take responsibility. Under no circumstances might you place the blame on an individual employee. «The company is also responsible for statements made by employees when they communicate on site or on company media. Behavior should therefore always be part of the corporate culture,” says Hollenstein.
