Shipmas: OpenAI Launches Enhanced ChatGPT and Teases More AI Innovations

OpenAI Kicks Off ‘Shipmas’ With Enhanced ChatGPT and Teases More AI Innovations

New ChatGPT Model Delivers Faster, More Accurate Responses and New Subscription Tier Unveiled

OpenAI, the company behind the groundbreaking ChatGPT, has kicked off its own version of an Advent calendar, dubbed “Shipmas,” with a flurry of AI-powered announcements. This digital gift-giving spree promises to deliver twelve days of new AI tools and advancements, culminating on December 16th.

The first present unwrapped during a live stream on December 6th was an enhanced version of ChatGPT, officially named ChatGPT o1. Initially released as a limited preview in September under the codename ‘Strawberry,’ the upgraded model boasts significant performance improvements. It is faster, more accurate, and excels at coding and mathematical tasks.

The new ChatGPT o1 can also generate “reasoning” responses to images and provide more succinct answers, resulting in faster response times.

In addition to the enhanced model, OpenAI also unveiled ChatGPT Pro, a premium subscription plan priced at $200 per month. This tier offers unlimited access to OpenAI o1, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice modes.

subscribers gain access to an exclusive version of o1, called o1 pro mode, which leverages more processing power to tackle the toughest challenges.

Those who prefer a less costly option can stick with the existing ChatGPT Plus plan, priced at $20 per month. This tier still offers early access to new features, access to all of OpenAI’s models (except the most powerful o1 version), and more.

More AI Innovations To Come

The launch of ChatGPT o1 and ChatGPT Pro marks a strong start to Shipmas, but OpenAI is hinting at even more significant announcements to come.

Speculation is rife about the impending official launch of Sora, OpenAI’s highly anticipated video generator.

Sora has already generated buzz for its potential and has been tested by a select group of artists who contributed to its development.

The anticipation surrounding Sora is fueled by a statement from Mira Murati, former CTO of OpenAI, who confirmed its arrival by the end of the year during an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

With twelve days of surprises still to come, OpenAI’s “Shipmas” promises to be a defining moment in the evolution of artificial intelligence.
