A drama is living Olinda Silvano, renowned artist and leader of the Shipibo Konibo indigenous community of Cantagallo. Some extortionists from the criminal gang El Tren de Aragua demand two thousand soles to avoid attacking her.
The extortionists have been threatening her since the end of February, but she was only able to record them. “The purpose of my boys chasing you out of your house and that, without saying a word, they pretended to be doing a robbery and that they shot you. Olinda, they are sending you to carry out a hit with our organization, ”says the hit man on his call.
Artist receives threats from extortionists
Olinda Silvano, who also sends her looms, murals and works to international exhibitions, decided not to remain silent even though she went to the Piedra Lisa Police Station to denounce the extortion, but was ignored on two occasions.
She fears that the criminals will try to end her life, as happened with the Asháninka leader Santiago Contoricon in Satipo. “I cut the previous calls. They said that they were going to end my life, they were foreigners and I cut, but yesterday I was able to record them,” said Olinda Silvano.
In the community it has the support of more than 600 families. For them, he makes various efforts and disseminates his work at various fairs. She believes that this exposure has put her in the crosshairs of extortionists.
Personnel from the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry for Women came to her house to offer her personal guarantees. She once more went to the Piedra Lisa Police Station, where she accepted the extortion complaint of which she is a victim.
