Shining Moments in Last Night’s Magic vs Pacers Game: Andrew Nembhard and Jarace Walker Stand Out

Last night’s game between the Magic and the Pacers brought together no less than three players from the top 11 of the 2023 Draft. In addition to a few high-class sophomores, it looked pretty cool on paper! Well, it didn’t really keep all its promises, but that doesn’t prevent us from coming back to a few points.

At the top of the list of what we liked, Mr. Andrew Nembhard. We already knew he was on his feet following his first game once morest the Wizards, and he only confirmed it yesterday by sending 21 points and 7 assists at 50% shooting including 40% from afar. The Summer League is a little too easy for him. But the Canadian is not the only one to have shone, since the Indiana rookies have also shown themselves! Starting with fullback Ben Sheppard, who planted 16 points at 4/7 from long range while grabbing 9 rebounds and contributing on defense. His cuvée buddy Jarace Walker also scored 16 points, but at slightly less honorable percentages (41.2% including 25% at 3 points). The pick 7 of the last Draft still delighted with its defense and its overflowing energy.

The little black spot of the Pacers evening is called Bennedict Mathurin, who crunched a little by laying a small 4/16 in shooting. The Canadian was very aggressive, he missed a lot but he was rewarded with an 8/9 on throws. Benny was at the heart of Indiana’s major run, who inflicted a 33-17 on his opponent in the second quarter. An offensive avalanche on the youngsters of the Magic, who were never able to return to the game.

On the Orlando side, the performances are indeed a little less satisfactory. We can still highlight the 18 points of Caleb Houstan and the 14 units of Elijah Hugues, who carried the attack of the Magic well between them. But we especially remember the delicate match of Anthony Black, in difficulty with his shot (2/12). Pick 6 tried things and sent some good passes, but above all he missed a lot, even if we nevertheless noted several interesting defensive sequences to put to his credit. The other rookie from Orlando, Jett Howard, was much more discreet: 10 points with a 2/5 from afar is good, but it doesn’t break a duck’s three legs.

So much for the main points of this Pacers – Magic, which did not raise the crowds as much as we might have hoped. But at the same time, what would the Summer League be without these somewhat boring matches? We are here for that.
