Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Andrey Shevchenko, the former star of Ukraine, gave Poland striker Robert Lewandowski a captaincy in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, to be worn by the latter in the World Cup in Qatar, expected at the end of this year.
Poland will participate in the 2022 World Cup, which will be held between the months of November and December, and is located in Group C along with the teams: Argentina, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.
Video clips showed Shevchenko gifting the captain’s armband to Lewandowski, bearing the colors of the Ukrainian flag, for the latter to carry with him to the Qatari capital, Doha.
“Thank you, Shevchenko, it was a pleasure meeting you, it will be an honor for me to carry this captain’s armband in the colors of Ukraine to the World Cup,” Robert Lewandowski said on his Twitter account.
Ukraine is under attack by Russia, which led to the suspension of sports activity in the country, before it was recently resumed, according to precautionary measures and measures.
