A Shein signed a contract with the Post Office and became the first international retailer to adhere to the new rules of the Conforming Shipment program. The information was confirmed by Valor newspaper.
According to people who work in the government, Shein has already formalized its registration under the terms of the ordinance and filed the application for membership with the Federal Revenue.
These sources say that, if all the documentation is correct, the company’s certification should come out “very quickly”. With that, Shein might also be the first to update its website to charge VAT on purchases under $50.
Shein had already committed to joining the Consignment program in a previous statement, and the process with the Revenue is the last step for the retailer to “formalize”.
In a new statement, the company said:
Shein is fully committed to the new compliance plan and will continue to work to strengthen the e-commerce sector in the country and look following the interests of Brazilian consumers.
It should be noted that the Consignment Remittance program provides for exemption from federal taxes for purchases below US$ 50, but ICMS will be charged at the time of purchase, regardless of the value of the product. The promise is that delivery will be much more agile within this modality.
Those companies that do not adhere to the government’s platform are subject to the old rule, and the Revenue must expand inspection for tax collection.
