(CNN) — Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani made an official offer to acquire 100% of Manchester United, the English club.
Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad confirmed the offer through a statement issued on Friday.
And the statement read: “Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani confirmed today that he made an offer to buy the shares of Manchester United Football Club by 100%.” At the heart of Manchester United Football Club once once more.”
The statement said the offer would be “debt-free through Sheikh Jassim’s 9 2 Foundation, which will look to invest in the football teams, training centre, stadium and wider infrastructure, as well as the fan experience and communities the club supports.”
“The vision of the bid is for Manchester United Football Club to be known for its footballing excellence and be seen as the greatest football club in the world,” the statement continued.
And the statement concluded: “More details of the offer will be disclosed when appropriate, as well as with the development of the offer process.”
Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani chairs the board of Qatar Islamic Bank, a Qatari bank.
CNN has reached out to the English club and the Raine Group, the investment banking firm handling the club’s sale, for comment, but did not immediately get a response.
Last November, the Red Devils’ owners, the Glazer family, announced their intention to explore selling the famous club.
Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is the owner of the second bid to buy the club, as the “Eneos” company, through its British billionaire owner, Jim Ratcliffe, had submitted an offer to buy the club, according to the British newspaper “The Times” last month.
The “Raine” group has set a Friday 10 p.m. (5 p.m. ET) deadline to receive offers, according to multiple reports.
