Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, is passing 41 years with excellent administrative achievements. He is the person who tops the list of longest reigning rulers in the world. This ruler has managed to make Ajman, the smallest emirate in the UAE, high on the list of developments. Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi succeeded his father Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi who ruled Ajman for 54 years from 1928.
One of the founders of the UAE. As the representative of his father, he contributed with dedication and loyalty to establish the Union and strengthen its foundations. During Sheikh Humaid’s reign, Ajman witnessed significant development in all fields. A firm believer in the importance of consultation for the betterment of the nation, Sheikh Humaid established the Ajman Executive Council through an order. Ajman appointed Crown Prince Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi as chairman and Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi as vice chairman along with other members.
Sheikh Humaid also gave special priority to the education and higher education sectors. For this the ruler established many new schools and universities. Also, educational institutions were provided with qualified educators and equipment. There are many colleges and universities like Ajman University, Gulf Medical University, City University College of Ajman (CUCA), University College of Mother and Family Sciences, Fatima College of Health Sciences and International College of Law, Business Administration and Technology.
Establishment of branches of other leading universities is also under consideration. In 2009, the University of Bedfordshire in Britain awarded him a PhD in Law in recognition of Sheikh Humaid’s key role in establishing the foundations of higher education in the emirate. He was awarded an Honorary PhD in Philosophy in 2011 by the International Islamic University of Malaysia. Sheikh Humaid also received the Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Outstanding Academic Performance in 2011.
Made investment friendly
Ajman was able to become a prominent investment destination under Sheikh Humaid’s instructions. An attractive and transparent procedure has been prepared for local and international investment companies and better facilities have been provided for local and foreign investors to start enterprises. The Ajman Free Zone has greatly promoted entrepreneurial activities in the emirate. It has played a major role in enhancing the emirate’s reputation as a class investment destination while creating an attractive environment for major investments in all sectors. Today, Ajman Freezone is teeming with more than eight thousand enterprises.
Sheikh Humaid also played a leadership role in establishing Ajman Port as a mainstay of the emirate’s economy as it operates with state-of-the-art equipment that can meet the growing demand and handle the movement of ships and cargo. Ajman has achieved unprecedented achievements in infrastructure development activities. Many construction works have been completed in this area which can be modeled for the country itself. Ajman has been at the fore in providing excellent travel facilities including high quality bridges and roads. Ajman is currently witnessing a boom in real estate investment and marketing.
Priority is given to tourism
Ajman has witnessed a boom in the tourism sector. Many facilities have been established for tourists including Ajman Marina, Heritage District, new hotels, markets, parks and entertainment programs. Ajman Museum is an integral part of the history of the emirate. Ajman Museum evokes the history of the ancestors. Historical remains of the 18th century are displayed here. It was also the seat of the ruler of Ajman until 1970. It was used as police headquarters till 1979. Shaikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi has transformed the museum into a tourist destination.
Care in the field of health
Ajman’s healthcare sector is developing rapidly. Excellent facilities are provided for citizens and residents. For this, the existing health facilities also witnessed expansion. The Ajman administration has made every possible effort to ensure the safety of its citizens, residents and visitors. Ajman has implemented excellent measures in dealing with the Covid pandemic. In 1984, the ruler established the country’s first charity organization, the International Charity Organization, as part of further promoting philanthropy. Along with that, Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Charity Foundation is also active in life charity activities.
Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid was born in 1933 in Ajman. As a young man he learned the Qur’an, the Hadith and the foundations of Islamic jurisprudence in a mosque. Before going to Cairo to continue his education, he acquired knowledge from religious, linguistic and mathematical scholars. Sheikh Humaid was trained in administration from his youth. In 1960, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi took over as the Crown Prince of Ajman.
