“Dr. Fauci and his team, through sharing information and research, have helped save countless lives”
Sheba Medical Center, the largest medical center in Israel and one of the best hospitals in the world according to Newsweek for five years, has rewarded the eminent American immunologist, Dr. Anthony Fauci, with the Sheba Champion of Global Health award.
This award recognizes Dr. Fauci’s entire work as director of the National Allergy & Infectious Diseases (NIAID) department and his contributions during the Covid-19 pandemic. Dr. Fauci played an important role during the pandemic as an adviser to the White House on Covid-19.
The award, presented to Dr. Fauci in a private ceremony in Washington, DC, celebrated cooperation between Sheba Medical Center and the US government during the Covid-19 pandemic, including sharing infection data, vaccinations and boosters that have guided policy decisions in the United States.
The event also presented the last official collaboration signed by Dr. Fauci before his retirement.
“I am proud to present Dr. Fauci with this award which recognizes his commitment to global health and his significant contributions during the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Professor Yitshak Kreiss, Chief Executive Officer of Sheba Medical Center.
“It is no exaggeration to say that Dr. Fauci and his team, through the sharing of information and research, have helped save countless Israeli lives and enabled us to implement our vaccination program,” said he added. The Sheba center was the first to vaccinate once morest Covid-19 in Israel.
“This award is of particular significance to me because of the respect I have for Israel and my Israeli colleagues with whom I have worked successfully for many years,” Dr. Fauci said.
“Our work with Sheba during the Covid-19 pandemic has been one of the most productive interactions between our two nations, with Sheba’s real-time data enabling us to make informed key policy decisions,” he concluded.
