Egyptian artist Yousra said that she was lucky to deal with great professors of film makers. Directors, writers and technicians, who left important imprints on her career.
She added that she started out as a heroine in cinema through the movie “Palace in the Air,” following which she filmed 20 films that were not shown in cinemas. Therefore, she earned the title of “Star of the Box Movies.” This came during a meeting held (Sunday) at the El Gouna Film Festival, in which she talked regarding her artistic and humanitarian careers. It was attended by a number of artists, including Laila Alawi, and directors Yousry Nasrallah, Enas El Deghaidy, and Marwan Hamed, in addition to a large audience of… Young.
Yousra touched on important milestones in her career that brought her together with great professors from whom she learned and benefited from their experiences, saying: “If today I am an actress standing on solid ground, this is due to what I learned from them. Each of them taught me something. When I used to go to have a cup of coffee with Youssef Chahine, he would open… I have a wide world to learn and benefit from, and Professor Waheed Hamed was like someone who would open his drawers for me, and I would reveal any problem to him, and director Ali Badrakhan also influenced me a lot.”

She expressed her enjoyment of working with Marwan Hamed in the movie “The Yacoubian Building”: “I had apologized for not participating in it, and Adel Imam said to me (read the script), and when I read it, I did not hesitate to submit only 5 scenes, and I said, ‘I am with you, and I will not forget the teachers, Samir. Saif, Muhammad Abdel Aziz, Salah Abu Saif, and Raafat Al-Mihi, so I feel that I am rich with all these adults who got me to where I am.”
Yousra considered her work with the great artist Adel Imam a “stand-alone artistic station”: “Together we presented 17 films, and Adel is light-hearted behind the camera, makes the work easy and enjoyable, and always chooses important topics.” She also spoke regarding the director Enas El Deghaidy, with whom she has a strong friendship and films. Important, praising her directorial boldness.

Yousra revealed that she wished to be an actress following seeing the star Souad Hosni by chance, as she was with her father in Alexandria and saw a crowd, only to find herself in front of Souad Hosni with all her charm. She said: “At this moment, I prayed to God to be like her, and then the director of photography, Abdel Halim Nasr, chose me and presented me as the heroine of the first film (Palace in the Air).”
Siva admits, as those close to her tell her, that her career has witnessed ups and downs, and that she starred in 20 films in her beginning that remained in boxes for a long time and were not shown in cinemas. That’s why critics called her the “star of box movies.”
Yousra talked regarding how she continues in the world of acting, saying that she “loves her work and feels that her basic energy comes out of it,” noting that “there is a time when she needs to completely disconnect in order to calm down from all obligations, but she does not get long vacations,” stressing: “I am afraid of artistic rust; So I have to read and watch a lot of films, and I find enjoyment in that.”

Regarding the extent of her intervention in the scenario, she said: “In cinema, I do not interfere, because the duration of the film is two hours, so there is no room for prolongation, but in series I intervene, and I must ensure good roles for everyone with me, because we present 13 hours of drama.”
Yousra justified her refusal to work in Hollywood and France, despite the tempting financial offers she received, by saying that she did not like the scripts of two films that were offered to her, did not accept to work according to agendas, and did not aspire to work abroad: “I have a position and love in the Arab world, and I have been working for a long time, and it is a journey.” It was not easy, but rather full of difficulties, success and failure, and successes make me feel that my efforts were not in vain, that my life was not wasted, and that I achieved an achievement in my life.”
Yousra gave advice to young artists not to be in a hurry to succeed, not to be discouraged by failure, and to work hard, read, watch and learn.
