Elections in Krakow. Małgorzata Wassermann’s unexpected move
The Law and Justice candidate, Łukasz Kmita, did not make it to the election runoff in Krakow. Due to this fact, the head of the Krakow structures of this party, Michał Drewnicki, appealed to the voters of this group not to vote for the candidate of the Civic Coalition under any circumstances. “In short – we cannot allow Tusk’s party to take over Krakow – hate, hatred, SokZBurak, we don’t want that in our city. Therefore, let’s go to the elections on Sunday and certainly not vote for Miszalski,” he wrote on social media.
Therefore, the statement regarding the elections in Krakow issued by PiS MP Małgorzata Wassermann a few hours before the beginning of the election silence was a big surprise. Opposing the party’s position, she informed that she was unable to vote for Łukasz Gibała.
This discrepancy was important because the future of Krakow was largely in the hands of Law and Justice voters. The party’s candidate, Łukasz Kmita, received nearly 60,000 votes in the first round. And it was this electorate that the candidates sought most in the last two weeks.
Kraków’s PiS accuses Wassermann: She helped Miszalski win
It turns out that following Miszalski’s victory, PiS activists in Krakow are furious with Wassermann. In an interview with Onet, they said many strong words towards her.
– Many people believe that Wassermann simply reached an agreement with Miszalski and sold the party in the name of her particular interests – said one of the local PiS politicians quoted by the portal. – Nobody believes that she did it for free – we read.
Politicians of Jarosław Kaczyński’s party believe that Małgorzata Wassermann helped Miszalski win with her declaration. In their opinion, the Platform’s defeat in Krakow would be a blow that might later be used in the campaign before the European Parliament elections.
According to Onet’s interlocutors, Wassermann’s decision in this matter may have been influenced by social reasons. They pointed out that the MP often visited the current mayor of the city, Jacek Majchrowski. His people were supposed to sympathize with Miszalski.
