This Saturday, while enjoying an Easter picnic with her family in Kinver Edge, England, a little girl had to be rushed to hospital following being bitten by… a snake!
A viper came to the family picnic and bit the eight-year-old girl on the finger. Arriving urgently at the hospital, the girl immediately received an intravenous infusion of anti-venom serum, we read in the columns of BirminghamLive.
Her father, David Rathbone, told the British daily: “She had been alerted that a snake was behind her by one of ours, and being a brave little girl, she investigated the reptile with her finger. . Exceptionally, the snake did not back down but bit his finger, ”says the dad.
“She let out a cry and at that moment I grabbed her hand and sucked hard on the wound on the tip of her index finger. The snake still hasn’t backed down,” David continues. He says his daughter then complained of “pain and swelling”. “We jumped in my car to Kidderminster Hospital as the swelling got worse and worse. About 15 minutes later, in the minor injury unit, his whole hand was swollen,” David explains.
“The staff acted quickly. Then they made the decision to take us under blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where the serum was stored. She was taken to the intensive care unit. She was in good spirits, being a very brave girl, until she received an intravenous infusion of anti-venom serum, which made her quite sick because it is a powerful drug, ”explains the father of family.
David’s daughter was kept under close surveillance in hospital following the infusion. “She’s feeling good now, except that she’s a bit disappointed to miss a great Easter egg hunt,” adds David.
