An Illinois woman has found her husband’s body eight months following he disappeared. She made the macabre discovery while fetching Christmas decorations from a closet.
According to KTVI, the Madison County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the man is 53-year-old Richard Maedge, and that he committed suicide.
He had been missing since April 27, 2022. His wife had not heard from him since he wrote to her that he was leaving work earlier.
She then returned from the family home, saw her husband’s car in the driveway, but no sign of the man.
The police had searched the house for the first time, without being able to find the man. They then returned a few weeks later to carry out another search following his wife complained of a stench.
It was in December that she made the discovery when she was looking for Christmas decorations in a closet under the stairs.
According to KTVI, the coroner judges that there is no criminal act which was committed since Mr. Maedge committed suicide.
The coroner also explains that since the closet was difficult to find, it is possible that the police did not find the body despite their searches.
