“She escaped her worst nightmare”

On Friday, a 12-year-old girl was quietly waiting at the Melsele tram terminus. A tranquility disturbed by two people pretending to be security guards. The man and woman in question asked her to follow them but the teenager sensed something fishy. As Het Laatse Nieuws explains, she therefore fled to be able to report the incident to a driver.

Immediately alerted by the latter, and thanks to a description of the people, the police were able to intercept Tom R. (36 years old) and Tamara B. (30 years old), the couple who had approached the 12-year-old girl. In the trunk of their car, various suspicious objects (which might be used for a kidnapping) were discovered as well as their fake uniforms from a security company.

Even though they argued it was a misunderstanding, that they had no intention of harming the girl, Tom and Tamara were arrested According to investigators, the teenager escaped “his worst nightmare”. Indeed, the two suspects are not strangers since they had already been convicted of the kidnapping and sexual assault of an escort seven years ago. Described as “sexual predators with distorted fantasies”, they had escaped conviction by moving to the Netherlands.
