Shawn Mendes has learned “to accept and welcome the hard blows of life.”
The ‘Mercy’ singer opened up regarding the challenges he’s faced in 2023 and how he’s trying to avoid the feeling of having to “change or fix something” every time he’s not doing well.
He wrote on Instagram: “The biggest lesson for me this year has been to accept and welcome the hard knocks in life… to not constantly need to change or fix something to feel good once more, because I know that if I really slow down and listen to myself when I’m not feeling well, there’s always something to hear.”
The 25-year-old star, who shared a candid video of himself playing the piano and singing in a raw and honest way, revealed how music has helped him.
He explained: “Last year I spent a lot of time singing like this…I found that in moments of extreme anxiety or fear, if I let myself confidently sing what came out, it often eased the pain…At first it seemed very difficult to let myself sing without striving for perfection, but following a while I began to fall in love with dancing between the ” good” and “bad” grades…
I realized that the moments of happiness and euphoria I felt in the “good” grades only existed BECAUSE the “bad” grades existed. The only reason I can sing in the right key is because I learned to listen.”
