Pakistan played three Test matches against England for the home series opener Sean Massoud has retained the captain and re-inducted left-arm spinner Nauman Ali into the team.
Bowling all-rounder Amir Jamal has recovered from a back injury and was included in the 15-man squad announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday. Noman Ali will be the other specialist spin option for Pakistan, along with Abrar Ahmed in the squad named for the opening Test.
Shan Masood’s captaincy was questioned when Bangladesh beat Pakistan 2-0. It was his fifth Test defeat in a row since he was made Test captain last year.
Pakistan could not include fast bowler Khurram Shehzad in the opening Test against England, who could not recover from a right-arm injury suffered during the second Test against Bangladesh.
The selectors also left out fast bowler Muhammad Ali and middle-order batsman Kamran Ghulam, who were part of the Pakistan squad during the Bangladesh series.

The England team will reach Multan on October 2 and there will be consecutive Test matches between October 7 and 19, while the third and final Test will be played in Rawalpindi on October 24.
As per the schedule released earlier, a match was to be held in Karachi, but the stadium is being prepared for next year’s Champions Trophy.
The Pakistan squad’s pre-series training camp in Multan will begin from October 1.
The series is part of the World Test Championship in which England is ranked sixth and Pakistan is ranked eighth.
Since defeating South Africa in 2021, Pakistan have struggled at home and have failed to win a single Test match.
Since then he has lost six Tests, including a two-nil loss to Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.
England last toured Pakistan in 2022 in which they had a three-nil clean sweep.
