Half of energy supply companies will increase their prices by at least 20% next year, according to a survey by the Association of Swiss Electricity Companies (AES). A five-room household will therefore have to pay 180 francs more.
For commercial businesses, for example a large bakery or a restaurant, with an annual consumption of 150,000 kWh, additional costs of around 6,000 francs are to be expected, the AES estimates in a press release on Friday.
The association conducted its survey of its members in May. The survey should be considered a first estimate, as procurement is not yet complete. Final prices for basic supply end customers will be available at the end of August. They will be published by the Federal Electricity Commission.
Sharp increase in market price
Market prices have risen sharply in 2021, notably due to higher fuel and CO2 prices as well as power plant breakdowns and shutdowns. At the end of 2021, electricity prices on the wholesale markets reached their highest values, by far, for 13 years. The conflict in Ukraine further reinforces the rise in prices.
For the record, the network operator Swissgrid announced in March that it was also going to increase its tariffs. A household whose annual consumption amounts to 4,500 kWh will pay an average of 20 francs more in 2023 for its services. At issue: regulatory requirements and the now complete takeover of the network infrastructure.
