Cement deliveries fell sharply in the first quarter, a decline attributable to an unfavorable basis for comparison. These reached 855,143 tonnes between January and March, i.e. -10% on an annual basis.

The deliveries recorded at the start of 2022 were “exceptional” and were explained by the “weather conditions”, underlined Thursday the umbrella organization Cemsuisse, which nevertheless evokes an easing of the uncertainties observed at the end of the year and resulting from the increase energy prices and inflation in general.

A stabilization of cement deliveries is one of the scenarios envisaged by Cemsuisse for 2023.

The share of cement transported by rail represents 37.6% of the total, a statistic that has risen over one year. Nearly three-quarters of deliveries were destined for ready-mixed concrete plants and 19.8% for concreting installations on large construction sites.
