Sharjah qualifies with penalty shootouts.. Baniyas bid farewell

Sharjah qualified for the group stage of the AFC Champions League following beating Al-Zawraa of Iraq 6-5 on penalties

After they tied 1-1 in the original and extra time.

The “king” will play the third representative of the Emirates in the continental championship following Al-Jazira and Al-Ahly youth in the group stage for West Asia hosted by Saudi Arabia, in the first group, along with the Saudi title holder Al-Hilal, Qatari Al-Rayyan and Tajikistan’s Al-Istiqlal.

The match was a peak of excitement, and the Brazilian Caio player of Sharjah missed a penalty kick, which was brilliantly saved by Jalal Hassan, Al-Zawra goalkeeper (54).

Al-Zawraa opened the scoring in the 61st minute through a free kick, which was brilliantly kicked by Saad Abdel Amir.

Substitute Khaled Bawazeer played the role of the hero when he caused a penalty kick following being obstructed by goalkeeper Jalal Hassan, so the referee awarded a penalty kick by Bawazeer himself a minute before the end of the match. After two additional times, and in the 120th minute, Al-Zawra goalkeeper Jalal Hassan was sent off, so that player Abbas Qassem participated as a goalkeeper in the penalty shootout, then midfielder Saad Abdel Amir.

In the penalty shootout, Khaled Bawazeer, Shokurov, Salem Saleh, Kayo, Mohamed Abdel Basset and Shaheen successfully shot, and Adel tackled the sixth ball of Al-Zawraa, which was shot by Ahmed Hassan.

Bani Yas was farewelled following losing to Uzbek Nasaf in Al Shamkha 0-2, and scored for the Uzbek team Shezod (27) and Hussain Nurshayev (75).

Nasaf will play in the group stage in Group E, which includes Al Sadd of Qatar, Al Faisaly of Saudi Arabia and Al Wehdat of Jordan.
