SHARJAH, 18th April, 2020 (WAM) — The Sharjah Institute for Heritage celebrated the World Heritage Day, which falls on the eighteenth of April, in the presence of Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Department of Suburbs and Villages Affairs in Sharjah, and Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, President of the Sharjah Heritage Institute.
A symposium entitled “Arab Councils” was held, in which a group of researchers in heritage spoke.
The symposium received a lively interaction from the attendees, and the celebration program included the holding of a photo exhibition on the Majlis as a heritage element approved by UNESCO, and the establishment of a live model of the Majlis, in addition to a video presentation of the Majlis from UNESCO.
His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Musallam said, “We cherish and appreciate World Heritage Day and consider it one of the most important international events that emphasizes the status of heritage and the need for its preservation, preservation, transmission for generations and its sustainability. It indicates the importance of global cooperation and coordination in various heritage affairs and issues, and that what brings us together as human beings in all civilizations and cultures is very much and requires Focus on it and celebrate it.
He pointed out that the celebration of the World Heritage Day during the blessed month of Ramadan has a good positive feature, and it is a beautiful positive gathering. Also from the talk of the councils, 3 councils were embodied, which are the bedouin or barn house, the house of poetry, and the women’s council, in a vivid embodiment of the quality of the councils.
He pointed out that the councils are among the main pillars in which the UAE leads the files for the registration of intangible heritage elements in UNESCO. He pointed out that the Emirate of Sharjah was the first to celebrate World Heritage Day more than 25 years ago.
