“Sharjah Gulf Women’s Creativity” announces the names of the winners

The Cultural Office of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah announced the results of the sixth session of the Sharjah Award for Gulf Women’s Creativity in Arts and Literature for the year 2024. The winners will be honored on the 23rd of this month in the Al Jawaher Hall under the patronage of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi. President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah.
In the field of poetry, Shaqra Muhammad Madkhali, from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, won for the collection “A Voice Stunned Like Sadness,” and Lulwa Jassim Al-Rayes, from the United Arab Emirates, won for the collection “Scattered Pearls,” and in the field of novels, Sharifa Ali Al-Tubiya, from the Sultanate of Oman, won. For the novel “Al-Bairaq Sarat Al-Jabal”, and Jamila Abdullah Ali, from Kuwait, for the novel “War of Flowers”, and in the field of theatrical writing, Amna Rabie Mabrouk, from the Sultanate of Oman, won for the play “Rory”, and Lulwah Ahmed Al-Mansouri, from the United Arab Emirates, won. For the play “The Cradle and the Water,” while the jury award went to Najiba Muhammad Al-Rifai, from the United Arab Emirates, for the text “The Wanderers,” and Hawraa Ali Al-Humaili, from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for the text “It Challenges and Confuses the Wind of Najd.” The winner of the Cultural Personality Award will be announced later.
The award comes in support of the creativity of women in the Arabian Gulf and their intellectual visions on cultural and literary topics, and to enhance the role of women’s fiction and poetry in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and an effective contribution to enriching modern Gulf literature, in addition to stimulating the spirit of positive competition in literary creativity among those with expertise and experience.
Salha Ghabish, Head of the Cultural Office at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, said: “The conditions of the award applied to all participants, which indicates the success of the award and the interest of creative women in all its details, which drives the award administration to research and do the best in an effort to develop the award.”
The head of the Cultural Office confirmed that the award is the first of its kind at the level of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries because it is concerned with women’s literary creations in the field of narrative narration, poetry, theater and children’s literature. Therefore, the competition in this session was intense among the participating creative women, which necessitated the allocation of a new award called the “Committee Award.” The arbitration is for distinguished works, noting that a Gulf female figure with books and a prominent cultural presence will be honoured.”
Regarding adding an award in the field of theatrical writing within the award’s fields, and postponing the field of literary studies for future sessions during that session, Salha Ghabish explained that the goal is to provide an opportunity for more than one literary genre to participate and to achieve diversity, as the award continues to change the literary forms that are allowed to participate in each. A session, in the hope that the award will create an influential literary and cultural movement.
