Sharjah Child Safety Department Launches First-of-its-Kind Child Home ‘Kanaf’ to Protect Children from Abuse

SHARJAH, 5th June / WAM / The Sharjah Child Safety Department continues its efforts to launch the Child Home “Kanaf”, the first of its kind in the region, which will provide integrated protection, adequate treatment and appropriate guidance for every child subjected to abuse or sexual, physical or psychological abuse. A specialized training program entitled “Methods of listening and dealing with child victims of violence”, recording the first “Kanaf” program in conjunction with the International Day for Children Victims of Abuse, which falls on June 4 of each year.

The first session within the program hosted Dr. Benna Bozboun, who has more than thirty years of experience in diagnosis, psychological and educational treatment in the Kingdom of Bahrain. During the session, Bozboun presented mechanisms and methods specialized in dealing with child victims of violence, aiming to open the door for the exchange of academic and practical experiences and knowledge specialized in the rules of communication with children. who have been subjected to physical and non-physical abuse.

The session highlighted the latest findings of medicine, psychiatry and family counselors in protecting child victims of abuse and avoiding exposure to situations that might multiply the effects of abuse on them.

And stopped at advanced techniques for dialogue with the child victim of abuse and the development of a list of hypotheses of problems and solutions on the basis of the succession of facts and the circumstances of each of the cases interviewed by the specialists. The session dealt with various forms of violence once morest children, how to deal with victims of sexual abuse, and the long-term risks that abused children may face.

It is noteworthy that the Children’s Home “Kanaf” received the attention of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, as she instructed the Child Safety Department in the Emirate to start work on establishing and establishing it to provide legal, psychological and social support for children who are victims of physical and sexual abuse and their families and relatives. And the standardization of child protection procedures, which makes it easier for the concerned institutions to provide referral and treatment services in one place with integrated facilities.
