Instead of writing your Wi-Fi password on a piece of paper and giving it to your guests, or even turning over your box to copy it, your computer running Windows 11 will now allow you to share a QR code, a great solution. more practical.

If you sometimes have to share your password, whether for your guests or to use your connection on one of your other devices, know that Microsoft has a new option that you might like.

In the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25977 update on the Channel Canary, Microsoft has introduced a very interesting improvement in the “Wi-Fi” section of your computer. In the properties, you now have the possibility of displaying a QR code, which you simply need to scan to connect to your box from another device.

Wi-Fi settings accommodate a QR code

Previously, if you wanted to share your Wi-Fi from your computer running Windows 11, you had to click on “Show a “Wi-Fi” security key, which therefore allows you to reveal the password for your box that you have already used on your PC beforehand. This method can be quite frustrating, since it required you to copy a long string of characters onto your smartphone.

Now, by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Settings [votre réseau], you will find the option “Show a Wi-Fi security key” at the bottom. By clicking on “Display”, you will now see in addition to the password a QR code that must be scanned on your mobile to instantly benefit from the Wi-Fi connection on this new device.

As specified above, this new option is currently only available to members of the Insider program who have installed the latest Windows 11 update on Channel Canary. It will therefore probably be necessary to wait a few more weeks before it is available to all users. In the meantime, we remind you that Microsoft has recently deployed other equally interesting features, notably during the major Windows 11 23H2 update.
