Sharing Saturday relies on generosity

Sharing Saturday, which aims to collect food and hygiene products, has been organizing these calls for donations since this morning and until tomorrow evening. The association hopes that the rise in food prices will not affect generosity. Last year, 201 tons were harvested in Geneva, and the needs are growing.

Non-perishable foodstuffs, but also hygiene products, 95 stores throughout the canton participate in this operation which takes place twice a year. This year, the focus is on specific products such as cereals or oils, products that are experiencing shortages due to the situation in Ukraine.

Products that are then redistributed to various associations and social services. The donations each year, more and more important, run following a galloping precariousness which obliges the foundation shares to buy products to meet the needs.

In recent weeks, 6,000 food aid bags have been distributed per week, an increase of more than 30% compared to the same period last year.

It is also possible to participate online via a virtual supermarket platform for those who do not have the opportunity to travel.
