After the meeting, Makhlouf indicated that he briefed the Lebanese minister on “the actions taken by the Syrian state to facilitate the return of Syrian refugees and displaced persons to their homes, including the amnesty decrees that were issued, the postponement of military service for six months for returnees, the extraction of lost documents for those who lost them in the countries of asylum, and the registration of new births in Syria and providing transport and medical services and everything necessary to get them to their areas of residence and support them with projects to enable a decent livelihood.

For his part, Sharaf El-Din said, “I was honored today to visit Damascus, dear to the hearts of the Lebanese, and was honored by the warm reception of His Excellency the Ministers of Agriculture, Local Administration and the Environment. During the meeting, we discussed issues of public affairs that the two peoples suffer from in Lebanon and Syria as a result of the policy of the rock and the hard.”
He added, “We in Lebanon are subjected to oppression by Israel, and to a policy of impoverishment that the UN envoy, Olivier de Chautier, mentioned, and it is a deliberate and fabricated policy and its goals have become clear. The Syrian state has suffered as a result of the arrogance of the West in terms of hitting infrastructure, brain drain, siege, and Caesar’s law, whose goal is to bring this people to their knees. And we talked regarding the economic issue to solve the economic crisis in Lebanon.”
He concluded, “As a member of the Displaced Persons Committee in the government, I extended my hand to cooperate in the name of the Lebanese state to the Minister of Local Administration Makhlouf, and we spoke regarding the issue of the return of the displaced to Syria, and securing it as a dignified and safe return, and I found a full response, hoping that we will include it on the cabinet’s agenda in Lebanon soon, especially After the plan was prepared by the two ministers, Saleh Al-Gharib and Ramzi Al-Sharafieh, and approved in the previous government.
The visit concluded with a lunch hosted by Makhlouf for Sharaf El-Din and the delegation.
