North China’s coal-rich Shanxi Province hit its annual coal production target of 1.3 billion tons on Tuesday, according to the provincial statistics bureau on Wednesday.
The province remains at the forefront of coal production in China this year and has achieved an average annual increase of more than 100 million tons for the second consecutive year.
While ensuring safe production, Shanxi has accelerated the expansion of its production and transportation capacity, and optimized and restructured coal mines to ensure energy supply.
According to the estimate, Shanxi has a coal mining area of 57,000 square meters, accounting for 36.3 percent of the national total. By the end of 2021, the province accounted for 23 percent of China’s total coal reserve, data released by the Ministry of Natural Resources showed.
