Shanghai Electric (SEHK: 2727, SSE: 601727) recently unveiled ambitious plans to promote technological self-reliance, especially in emerging industries, at its “2024 Technology Conference,” a meeting of the company’s R&D and engineering staff at its global headquarters in Shanghai.
At this internal meeting, Shanghai Electric also announced a new development plan for the new energy and industrial equipment division. This roadmap contains detailed plans aimed at strengthening the company’s innovative strength and solidifying its market leadership position.

Promote research and development through investment in new areas
From 2021 to 2023, Shanghai Electric will invest 17.7 billion yuan in R&D, 30% of which will be invested in emerging fields such as wind power, solar energy, hydrogen storage, automation equipment, and industrial software. The company continues to promote the management of profit assessment projects for R&D investment. In 2023, 11 new projects will be added, and the total number of supported projects will reach 50, with a cumulative profit of 940 million yuan.

On April 9, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Electric signed a strategic cooperation agreement to establish a long-term and sustainable cooperative relationship. The two parties will jointly establish a green smart equipment research center to meet the needs of Shanghai’s national and strategic industries through technological innovation and talent training. .
This move was followed on July 23 by another important alliance with Tsinghua University, a renowned higher education institution.
