Recep Tayyip Erdogan returns to attack Israel head-on with words and deeds. The Turkish president hosted the political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, for a conversation that lasted over two hours. Erdogan assured his interlocutor that Israel “one day will pay the price for the oppression it inflicts on the Palestinians”, who he invited to “act united” in the process that aims to create an independent State of Palestine “key to regional peace”. During the meeting, the Turkish presidency explained, Erdogan and Haniyeh discussed efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war and provide humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Haniyeh’s visit to Türkiye sparked Israel’s anger. “The Muslim Brotherhood: rapes, murders, desecration of corpses and burned children. Shame on Erdogan!”, wrote the Foreign Minister of the Jewish State, Israel Katz, on ‘X’. Meanwhile, in the Middle East, the controversy over the veto placed by the United States at the UN on the Palestinian request for full membership of the United Nations continues. The president of the PA, Mahmoud Abbas, said he was ready to “reconsider” bilateral relations with Washington. “While the world agrees on the application of international law, America continues to support the occupation and opposes us in international forums,” he said, accusing the US of holding positions that “do not serve security and stability in the area”. New details also emerge on the raid carried out by Israel, and never claimed, on a military base in the Iranian city of Isfahan.
According to what the New York Times reported, citing two Western officials, the Israeli armed forces would have launched a missile equipped with technology capable of evading Tehran’s radar defense systems. The missile would have been launched from a fighter that was “far from Israeli or Iranian airspace” and also from Jordanian airspace, to prevent Amman from being involved in a possible retaliation. A similar situation occurred in Iraq where the Popular Mobilization Forces, a coalition of militias allied with Iran, reported a raid on their base. The toll is one victim and at least eight injured. The United States immediately clarified that it had not conducted air raids on Iraq and the American media added that not even Israel had any “connections” to what happened south of Baghdad.
